A bit of history
I've been an E-gold user for about 4 years, and over this period the activity of my account has grown by the day. At one point I actually had to log in 15-20 times daily. I'm sure you'll agree that the login process of E-gold is rather tiresome if you have to repeat it that often.
Then the day came where e-gold updated their turing-numbers (you know those "prove-you're-a-human-being-pictures" you have to enter in a box next to them) rendering them practically impossible to read. That was the day I decided that there had to be an easier way.
EHC started out as a tiny tool for my own private use, the only feature was to display the balance of my e-gold account.
The purpose of this was to be able to quickly determine if there had been any account activity, without opening my browser and logging in. I would write down the balance on a piece of paper and compare it to the current balance each time. If there had been activity, a change in the balance, I would log in via the e-gold site to see what.
Later on I added the ability to fetch the account history as well.
Now my small tool was really shaping up to become very useful, there had to be others who could appreciate it. So I published a very rough version, which sold at $1. The first copy was paid for on the 5th of june 2003.
Lots of features has been added since then, both on user request and of my own ideas, but the main idea is still the same: Making the process of getting your history and balance as fast and easy as possible.
The latest major feature I've added is the ability to perform spends directly from EHC, and in the latest version I've expanded this to also allow mass-payments, without turing numbers.
